To bear arms

Farrah told us something about the American Gun Culture.
People of America have the right to bear arms - this means they are allowed to buy weapons without a license.

The reason why they are allowed to buy weapons is the American history. When the Americans became independent, they had to struggle against the British government. So they need the weapons to fight against the British army.

Today, most people in America don't need the weapons because they feel save in the cities. Only people in the south of America, the Rednecks, bear arms and use them. These rednecks are uneducated, really fat, poor, are drinking bear and they smoke.

To my mind, people shouldn't be allowed to bear arms because it keeps more to damage than security.

Thanksgiving and Black Friday

Thanksgiving was first celebrated in 1621 when the pilgrims invited the Native Americans to celebrate the harvest.
Thanksgiving is celebrated every year on the 4th Thursday of November. It is tradition that the family stay together and eat many good food.

The day after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday. Black Friday is the official start of the Christmas shopping season. Most of shops open their store at 6 o'clock in the morning and grant really good discounts. Everyone wants to be the first in the shop.
It doesn't surprise me that there are so many accidents because veryone wants to get cheap presents.

WikiLeaks

I read an article the other day in the online-version of economis.com and it talks about WikiLeaks.
I thought you might be interested because I'm sure you heard the news in the last time.

Basically what it talks about is that the homepage WikiLeaks publishes a lot of secret information and secret videos, for example a dialogue of American diplomats. This dialogue contains bad statements about Putin, Berlusconi, Merkel and so on.

It is also mentioned that the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, is wanted by the whole world. Julian Assange is supposed by 5 anonym collaborators.

The homepage is nearly like Wikipedia because everybody can write an article on the homepage. The difference between WikiLeaks and Wikipedia is that Wikileaks is coded very well. That's the reason why WikiLeaks is so powerful.

Summing up it's amazing how clever the whole organisation of Wikileaks is and how one man creates difficulties for a great part of the world.

VOCABULARY:

collaborator (Projektmitarbeiter): The collaborators did a good job.

founder (Gründer): He is the founder of WikiLeaks.

coded (verschlüsselt): The homepage is coded very well.

Halloween

Tonight is the night
When dead leaves fly
Like witches on switches
Across the sky,
When elf and sprite
Flit through the night
On a moony sheen.

Tonight is the night
When leaves make a sound
Like a gnome in his home
Under the ground,
When spooks and trolls
Creep out of holes
Mossy and green.

Tonight is the night
When pumpkins stare
Through sheaves and leaves
Everywhere,
When ghouls and ghost
And goblin host
Dance round their queen.
It’s Halloween.

In the 19th century, companies started advertising for novelties and fringe products. Later, brand-naming became necessary because more and more companies were launched.

From 1873 to 1894, there was an economic depression. Many companies connected with other small companies to increase advertising, because they had to present there new range of products.

At the end of the 19th century, there was a man who is called Lord Leverhulme. He branded his soap because there were so many rivals.

Lord Leverhulme was also the first one who realised that advertisement needs more than a presentation of a product. Advertisement should be eye-catching and should contain logical and considered arguments. The companies who are not able to advertise are the victims of the big companies.

Our trip to italy

1. day:

On monday, the 17th of Mai, we started travelling by bus to italy. On the way, we stopped two times for going to toilets, eating something or buying something to drink. After 6 hours travelling by bus, we stopped in Udine for sight seeing. Then we continiued the trip to Bibione. After arriving in Bibione, we marched in our mobil-homes, changed our clothes and ran to the beach. Dinner was at 19:00 o'clock. After dinner, we went in the citiy bibione for eating and drinking something.

2. day:

At 7 o'clock, we had to grow up because breakfast was at 7:30. After the breakfast, we went to Venice. In Venice, we had to do a little quiz about the town. Answering the question was very difficult and in addition, it was very very hot. After trip we relaxed on the beach and after the dinner, we relaxed on our terace.

3. day:

Wednesday was the first official sport-day of our trip. In the morning, we did archery and in the evening, we rided our bike and had a picnic. The rest of the day, we spent time on the beach and played beachsoccer. It was very funny. At night, we spent most of the time in the disco near our mobile-homes.

4. day:

The fourth day was the last full day in Bibione. For lunch, we went to a village near bibione. After that, there were three tournaments on the beach, on which we took part. Most of the girls played beach-volleyball, most of the boys played beachsoccer and some people played "Botcha". Then we relaxed on the beach, like every day. After dinner, we went in the town for drinking something.

5. day:

The last day of our trip. After breakfast, we started travelling home. I think everybody was a little bit sad because we left this beautiful place.

All in all, it was a very nice week.
